Here I describe how to use it.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">In an earlier article I described the design and construction of a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/a-selector-switch-for-many-tape-recorders\/\"> selector switch for many tape recorders<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>That article was quite long enough, so I held off describing how to use it for a separate article.<\/p>\n<p>A bank of 14 switches control connection to the 7 recorders which can be connected to the switch box and a couple of knobs control what gets sent out to the amplifier or other monitor.<\/p>\n<h2>Recorder Input switches<\/h2>\n<p>The top row of switches determines the input connection to the recorders<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When UP the recorder(s) is connected to the dubbing bus<\/li>\n<li>In the center position the recorder(s) is not connected (off)<\/li>\n<li>In the DOWN position the recorder is connected to the Amplifier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Recorder Output switches<\/h2>\n<p>The lower row of switches determines determines the output connection of the recorders<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When UP the recorder(s) is connected to the dubbing bus<\/li>\n<li>In the center position the recorder(s) is not connected (off)<\/li>\n<li>In the DOWN position the recorder is connected to the Output section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Monitor Selector knobs<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1596\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1596\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1596\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Switch-monitor-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"Monitor selector knobs\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Switch-monitor-300x181.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Switch-monitor-768x462.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Switch-monitor-1024x617.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Switch-monitor-2000x1200.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1596\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Monitor selector knobs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The knobs have three positions and determine the signal being passed to the two monitor outputs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Position 1 connects to the output from the recorder(s)<\/li>\n<li>Position 2 connects to the\u00a0input from the amplifier<\/li>\n<li>Position 3 connects to the dubbing bus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two knobs are provided to feed the two separate monitoring outputs.<\/p>\n<p>The right hand output is used to connect to the Amplifier tape monitor input. This control is normally left in position 1 so that you can listen to the recorder which you have selected with the lower bank of switches.<\/p>\n<p>The left output is connected to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/valve-headphone-amplifier\/\">headphone amplifier<\/a> and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiredwood.co.uk\/wordpress\/vu-meter-bridge-take-2\/\">meter bridge<\/a>. This control is normally left in position 2 so that you can listen to the amplifier on headphones or watch the meters dancing.<\/p>\n<h1>Using the Selector Switch<\/h1>\n<h2>Recording from the Amplifier<\/h2>\n<p>Flip down the appropriate upper switches.
